June 1st, 1964 – November 27th, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Cornwell Gath, who left us on November 25th, 2024, at the age of 60. Surrounded by family and loved ones at her home in Preble, Connie’s final days and weeks were filled with love, kindness, and connection to those she cherished most.

Born on June 1st, 1964, daughter of Bob and Georgia Cornwell,  Connie was a beacon of kindness to everyone who knew her. She grew up one of nine children with  values of generosity, warmth, and compassion that she carried with her throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who crossed her path.

Connie was the devoted wife of Tom Gath, with whom she shared many joyful years filled with love, adventure, and mutual respect. Their partnership was built on an enduring commitment, leaving a legacy of deep affection that will be remembered by all who knew them.

As a mother, Connie was compassionate, supportive, and fiercely proud of her daughter Kellie. She nurtured Kellie with a patient and gentle hand, always offering encouragement and wisdom, guiding her through life’s challenges with a steady presence. As a grandmother to Kiera, her love deepened even further. Connie cherished every moment spent with Keira, offering unconditional support, joyful laughter, and endless love.

Proud of her vocation Connie had a career as a ‘Material Shop Hand’ at Pall Trinity Corporation in Cortland where she worked for 30 years. Many a lifelong friendship was forged in that career.

Connie is survived by her loving husband Tom, her cherished daughter Kellie, Kellie’s husband Josh and granddaughter Keira, her stepchildren Leonard and Ashley Gath, Paula, and Christopher, and her beloved grandchildren Lark, Juniper, Dakota, and Cyrus. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her and especially those her called her mom or Grandma.

A celebration of Connie’s life is planned for January 11th 2025. Details TBA.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, those wishing to honor Connie’s memory are encouraged to make contributions to Hospicare of Cortland and Tompkins County (hospicare.org). This organization provided compassionate care and support to Connie and her family, and your generosity will help them continue their vital work in the community. Donations made in Connie’s name would be a meaningful tribute to her spirit and the kindness she extended to others throughout her life.
