Exquisite 1920s dress is in remarkable condition and just a spectacular example of the fine hand work done in that time period. So many elements of this piece combine to make it a true stand out in the realm of flapper pieces! The color is outstanding - a muted, but strong pink is the backdrop for that wonderful bead work. The base is a fine spun cotton making it quite strong and wearable - this one will last a good long time still! It is also labeled which is so very very rare. You see the occasional "made in France" or an old sizing tag but to have a fully labeled piece is wonderful! The shop name appears to be Isis and I would hazard a guess that it was a small independent boutique that obviously did the finest of couture level pieces for a very high end clientele. The dress itself is typical flapper - a simple scooped bodice, both front and back, following a tubular shape through the waist and then it widens to a jaunty swing skirt that has lovely movement! Its fully beaded - every square inch and I believe the beads to be "sugar beads" - a particular type of spun glass that is slightly milky. The neckline has† contrasting beading in the teeniest milk glass beads mixed with gold colored tube glass beads and the design is a lovely trail of flowers that emphasize the cut of the dress. This same combination of white and gold toned beads circle the waist and trail down the skirt! Its quite weighty due to the extensive beading and really a extraordinary piece. Strong and wearable with the care and love it deserves to be shown - this is one of the best 1920s pieces I have ever seen. The level of work in this piece would only be found in the highest couture of today! Museum quality.

Comic Excellence
Format: Paperback
An ALA Best Book for Young Adults, this graphic novel is one of a growing number of high quality comics appropriate for both young adult as well as adult audiences. I particularly like the way the book blends the western and science fiction themes. Daisy Kutter is a fascinating character with more depth than many graphic novels. I look forward to other books in this series.

The Hipster Spies With His Mystic Eye Something That Begins With--The Old West through a fractured lens
Format: Paperback
Set in a strange, Futurist version of the Wild West, female ex-bandit Daisy Kutter is tricked into one last train robbery. But all is not as it seems. It has wry humor, an appealing lead character, a real feel for the West, & fun art. I'll bet my eyeteeth the cartoonist has a shelf full of Lamour Westerns at home. This belongs in an odd little sub-genre called the Weird West, claimed equally by Westerns, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, all set in the latter half of America's 19th Century, & west of the Mississippi. I wanna see more of Miss Daisy Kutter. The Hipster gives it a big Thumbs Up!

Good story, strong female lead.
Format: Paperback
Always good to see a powerful story whose protagonist is strong but still human, with dimension and depth... and a woman. Not enough of that in our society, but at least it's here.
